Growing up Ashley Williamson was an active kid, involved in various team and individual athletic pursuits. Her parents never said ‘no’ to anything she wanted to try – from dance, to tennis, soccer, cross-country running, hockey, mountain biking, and ski racing; being active was always an important part of her life. After completing a degree in Recreation and Leisure from Brock University, she went on to manage a boutique gym in the west end of Toronto. It was here that she learned the in's and out's of how to successfully run a fitness business and then decided to open her own business.
Why Did You Start Your Business?
Ashely Williamson (AW): Working full-time didn’t provide a lot of extra time to commit to playing sports, so it was then that I re-discovered my love for running. I was running 6-7 days a week, allowing myself little time for rest, and doing little-to-no cross training. I was constantly burning out and I didn’t even know it. My body finally told me enough was enough, after developing what could have been a serious injury. After 6 months of rehabilitation, I decided to re-evaluate my own routines and search for a more balanced approach (news flash! It didn’t involve 6-7 days/week of cardio and limiting my caloric intake).
It was then that I started to spend more time in the gym playing with weights, benches, stability balls, suspension trainers, and other fun fitness toys. I also became serious about eating properly and educating myself on proper nutrition. Through this time, I realized that I wanted to share my love of health and wellness with others and decided to become a certified personal trainer through CanFitPro.
What Do You Love About It?
AW: I love that I can help so many people! I created Ashley Williamson Fitness with the goal of sharing my passion with other women – regardless of age or fitness level. I don’t think that fitness should be boring, tedious, or intimidating; and I certainly don’t believe that no pain = no gain.
Fitness goes so much further than how you look on the outside. Sure, that’s a small part of it – but more importantly, fitness is about making positive changes to how you feel, both mentally and physically. Becoming fit requires a balanced approach (with a sprinkle of fun thrown in there too!) that anyone can achieve with the right guidance and support. Taking a little time out of your busy schedule to invest in yourself will only help you to become more happy and productive in the long run.
What Do You Want Women In Oakville To Know About You?
AW: I want them to know that I am truly interested and invested in their fitness successes and achievements. I do what I can to be accomodating so that they can make sure physical activity is a part of their life. I can come to anyone's house and train them, my rates are as follows:
Personal training: $35.00/hr
Semi-private training: $55.00/hr
