Fall family fun is not complete without a trip to a local farm to pick some apples and then a pumpkin for Halloween! Find out where you can go to enjoy these awesome autumn activities.

Check out the following farms offering an abundance of both apple and pumpkin picking and including tons of kid friendly attractions to keep kids occupied for hours. All locations listed below can be found within about a half an hour drive of Oakville.

Apple picking season is approximately beginning of September to beginning of November. You can visit each's farms website to find out which apples they currently have for picking.

Pumpkin picking season is approximately mid September to beginning of November.


Andrew's Scenic Acres

Home of the Great Pumpkin Challenge! This family operated farm, established in 1980 has 165 acres of pick your own fruits and vegetables.  There is also a large array of already picked produce for purchase (including pumpkins and apples!)

Family attractions include: the haunted forest, straw mountain jump and cornfield walk and wagon rides to the pumpkin patch (Starting September 15th with a $3.00 entrance fee). No fee to enter farm market and winery.   Open May 1 to Oct 31, from 8am to 6pm.

Hutchinson Farm

Known for their eco friendly ways and for having one of the largest selections of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. No apples, but plenty of amazing pumpkins to pick, including other fall favorites, such as gourds, squash and tomatillos to choose from. In addition they grow hundreds of different flower varieties for sale, including herbs. Bring your camera, this family operated farm is nestled  along the Niagara Escarpment and offers outstanding scenic views especially in the fall. Open Weekdays 9am to 6pm and Sat/ Sun 9am to 5pm.

Orchalaw Farms

Offering 20 varieties of apples and hundreds of diverse pumpkins, you will be hard pressed not to find what you want. On weekends there are free wagon rides to pick your apples and pumpkins. There is also a market with plenty of already picked produce to choose from, including various fall decorating items too. Open Weekdays 11 am- 6 pm and Sat/Sun 9am to 5pm.

Downey's Farm Market

Family run farm with plenty of family friendly activities in addition to apple and pumpkin picking! For $7 per person (2 to 92) you have unlimited access to the family fun play area that includes a petting zoo, giant sandbox, wooden play train, goat mountain slide, tyke track, jumping pillows, pirate ship, mini put golf and more. There is also a giant corn maze, wagon rides, a bakery and gift shop too. Open daily from 9am to 5pm.

Frootogo Orchards

This family friendly apple and pumpkin destination uses dwarf trees, so that wee hands will have ample opportunity to pick their own apples. In addition, Frootgo has a huge play yard ($2.50 per person) for the kids to run wild, visit the animals, make their way through the corn maze and discover toy land. There is also puppet shows and hay rides on the weekends. Open daily 10am to 6pm.

Parkside Farms

Take a fun wagon ride to find your perfect pumpkin, visit Storybook forest, get lost in the corn maze, see furry friends in the petting zoo and finally take a peek in the Boo Barn for a thrill or two. For $8 per person you can do all of the above and take home your own pumpkin too.  Open Aug 1 to Oct 31 (Pumpkinfest is from October 1 to Halloween). Open daily from 10am to 6pm.

Chudleigh's Apple Farm

Growing and selling apples since 1957 this Canadian staple and brand can be seen in many a grocery store. However, there farm is not one to be missed.   After apple picking head over to the children’s play and observation area and let the kids explore the farm petting zoo with friendly furry friends to meet, take a tractor wagon ride, visit the straw maze, climbing area and take the nature trail for a walk.  Admission is $12.00 as of Sept 1st for guests ages 4 and up. Open daily from 10am to 5pm.

Wheelbarrow Orchards

They offer 8 different apples to pick during apple season and also have a market open Thursday through Sunday with ready picked apples, fresh pressed cider, Ontario honey, pumpkins, squash and gourds. They also offer a full line of their very own Harvest Goodies Products, including Jams, Jellies, Salad Dressings, Mustards, Pickles and Salsas.
