MOMSTOWN PROGRAM PASS QUALIFIES FOR THE CHILD ARTS TAX CREDIT

February 27, 2014momstownFamily Life, ParentingNo comments
Families can claim up to $500 for each child per year for arts programs. Find out how our $85 per year Program Pass is eligible for this credit on your 2014 tax return.

Joining momstown has always been a great decision but now it's even better!  When you purchase the $85 Program Pass, you can now claim it on your income tax return as part of the Children's Art Tax Credit.

What is the Children's Art Tax Credit (CATC)?
For 2011 and subsequent years, the budget proposes a new non-refundable tax credit based on eligible expenses paid for the cost of registration or membership of your or your spouse's or common-law partner's child in a prescribed program of artistic, cultural, recreational or developmental activity (eligible program).

Why is momstown eligible?
To be eligible, a program must be supervised and suitable for children. There are many ways a program can be eligible but specifically regarding momstown, we are "a membership of a minimum eight consecutive weeks duration in an organization that more than 50% of all the activities offered to children are eligible activities" – this is consistent with our annual program pass.

What are eligible activities?
Eligible activities will include an activity that contributes to the development of creative skills or expertise in artistic or cultural activities; provides a substantial focus on wilderness and the natural environment; helps children develop and use particular intellectual skills; includes structured interaction among children where supervisors teach or help children develop interpersonal skills; or provides enrichment or tutoring in academic subjects.

As described on our Program Pass page the momstown pillars and focus on child development and literacy align very well with these activity requirments.

Can I get a receipt?

You will be emailed a receipt when you purchase your membership. Please keep this in a safe place for tax filing time in 2014, you will need to reference it when you submit.

If you haven't purchased your Program Pass yet,now is the time to do so.  Purchase yours today and enjoy ALL the benefits of being a momstown member.
