There are so many things you can add to this recipe! Pop some marshmallows on top or a dollop of whip cream. Use a candy cane as a stir stick to add some mint flavour or pour a shot of baileys in for an adult friendly version.
This recipe can easily be doubled. When serving hot chocolate to young kids, getting the temperature to between 130F – 140F makes it tolerable for them to drink.
1. Mix together the cocoa, sugar, salt, and 1/4 cup of milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat until cocoa and sugar are dissolved.
2. Add in the rest of the milk and heat it over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it is hot. Stir in the vanilla and serve.
If you like it frothy, you can use an immersion blender to fluff it up a bit.
