Alpha-Bits Alphabet Play is a regular monthly program run by momstown Oakville that focuses on early literacy skills for toddlers and preschoolers. This month we explored Fairy Tales and added some extra fun to Goldilocks and the Three Bears by having each child make puppets to go along with the story.
You can download the printable puppets here.
We started the program with an alphabet puzzle and all the kids worked together to fit all the pieces into the right spots. We talked about what sounds each letter made and what picture was on the puzzle piece next to the letter.
The kids then got busy cutting and colouring their own puppets which we taped to popsicle sticks. Once they were finished, we gathered together to read Goldilocks and the Three Bears and everyone got to use their puppets to follow along. It was so great to see the kids interacting and using the puppets to engage in the story. Best of all, each child got to take their puppets home with them for even more imaginative play.
We continued story time while snacking on Alpha-Bits cereal and then wrapped up the morning singing our goodbye song. If you'd like to join us for the next Alpha-Bits Alphabet Play program, you can purchase a program pass here.
